Minister Basuki Accompanies President Jokowi Installing First Pillar of Garuda at IKN Presidential Office

North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, ABIM (23/9/2023) – The Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, accompanied President Jokowi on a visit to inspect the progress of the construction of the presidential office building in the National Capital (IKN) Nusantaraon Friday, (09/22).

President Jokowi was also accompanied by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, Minister of Investment Bahlil Lahadalia, Head of the IKN Authority Bambang Sussantono, Main Director of PT PP Novel Arsyad and and Presidential Office Building designer Nyoman Nuarta.

In his statement following the inspection, the President noted that the construction of the Presidential Office was proceeding well and had reached 38 percent completion. Additionally, the President stated that the development of infrastructure initiatives in the IKN was consistent with the plan.

The ceremonial first installation of screws on the Garuda pillar was also performed by President Jokowi. The pillars, once installed, will look like the wings of the Garuda bird, which will decorate the outside of the president’s office.

As of September 2023, the building of the Presidential Office was 38% complete, as previously confirmed by Diana Kusumastuti, Director General of Housing Infrastructure. According to Diana, the Garuda structure would have 4,650 pillars installed by the end of March 2024.

When finished, the Garuda will stand 77 metres high and have a wing span of 177 metres, making it the building’s recognisable symbol. Diana added, “The length of the wing from end to end is 177 metres, the length from the curve is about 239 metres, and the height is 77 metres.”

“The PUPR Ministry also hopes that development implementation can proceed according to schedule, so that the Indonesian Government is ready to carry out the ceremony in August 2024,” Diana hoped.

The PUPR Ministry has been developing the presidential office building in East Kalimantan since November 2022, according to Rozali Indra Saputra, Head of East Kalimantan BPPW. “The construction implementer is PT PP – Wika KSO, with a total budget allocation for the construction of this presidential office building of IDR 1.56 T and sourced from the APBN,” Indra added.

Expert Staff of the Minister of PUPR for Technology, Industry, and the Environment Endra S. Atmawidjaja; Head of the IKN Infrastructure Development Implementation Task Force Danis H. Sumadilaga; Director of Building Arrangement Cakra Nagara; and Director of Human Settlements Diana Kusumastuti were also present with Minister Basuki.(ABIM)
