Minister Basuki Invites Tajikistan President to Attend 10th World Water Forum 2024 in Bilateral Meeting

Bali, ABIM (17/10/2023) – During the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono held a meeting with delegates/representatives from Tajikistan led by Sulton Rahimsoda as Chairman of the International Fund for Saving Aral Sea (IFAS), Friday (10/13).

Minister Basuki extended a formal invitation to the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, to participate in the Head of State level discussion at the 10th World Water Forum in May 2024.

“I would like to invite the President of Tajikistan to take part in the 10th World Water Forum in Bali at a meeting stating the commitment of state leaders regarding the spirit of cooperation in water management,” stated Minister Basuki.

Minister Basuki expressed the expectation that the 10th World Water Forum 2024 will generate real progress in water management and serve as a link between all international water agendas.

“The most important thing is not only what has been done, but what next steps will be taken after holding the 10th World Water Forum so that the results of the meeting can be useful,” stated Minister Basuki.

In addition to this, according to Sulton Rahimsoda, Chairman of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), the 10th World Water Forum was expected to center on the practical actions of the participants, who had gathered to pledge fresh commitments concerning water management. “It would be very helpful if all these commitments were contained in one document,” he said.

Sulton also conveyed his aspiration for the Indonesian Government, and Minister Basuki in particular, to participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference or the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP), both of which are scheduled to take place in Dubai next November.

In response, Minister Basuki noted that the Indonesian Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has prepared an official statement for Indonesian President Joko Widodo to deliver at COP 28 emphasizing the importance of water management as one of the ways to battle climate change.

“This is consistent with the President’s declaration that COP 28 will emphasize water management. Minister Basuki added, “I have also informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs to emphasize the significance of water management at COP 28.” (ABIM)
