Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan, ABIM (4/9/2023) – The Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, together with Commission V DPR RI Lasarus and Kapuas Hulu Regent Fransiscus Diaan, inaugurated the Sepan Kareho Suspension Bridge on Sunday (8/3), at Kareho Village, Kapuas Hulu District, West Kalimantan Province.
According to Minister Basuki, President Joko Widodo’s program of “Building from the Upskirt” to achieve social justice was followed in the construction of the Kareho Suspension Bridge with assistance from the Central Government. Community-based infrastructure with immediate advantages includes suspension bridges. In addition, the building of the Sepan Kareho Suspension Bridge is an actual response to the Chairman of the Commission V DPR RI Lasarus’s hopes after a joint working visit in 2021.
“The PUPR Ministry hopes that the Kareho Village residents can use this suspension bridge to cross the Kapuas River to the newly constructed national road, and that it will perform properly, I suggest that necessary maintenance be performed on this suspension bridge.” Minister Basuki remarked.
Chairman of Commission V DPR RI Lasarus expressed his gratitude for following up on the aspirations of the DPR in helping residents to access the main road for residents of remote areas in West Kalimantan.
On the same occasion, Handiyana, the Head of the West Kalimantan National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN), Directorate General of Bina Marga, Ministry of PUPR, stated that construction of the Kareho Suspension Bridge began in July 2022 and be completed in December 2022.
The 120 meter long and 1.8 meter wide suspension bridge’s contract for construction is worth IDR 13.65 billion. Local contractors CV Asri Karya and PT Jakarta Plan Selaras-PT Kartika Taruna Bumi, KSO served as the project’s supervision consultants.

Atmawidjaja, Head of the West Kalimantan BPJN Directorate General of Bina Marga Ministry of PUPR Handiyana, Head of BWS Kalimantan 1 Pramono, Head of Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center West Kalimantan Deva Kurniawan, Head of the Kalimantan I Housing Provision Implementation Center Andy Suganda and Head of West Kalimantan BP2JK Martalia Isnaeni.(AWN)
