Over 70,000 Workers Employed by the Labor-Intensive Program for Roads and Bridges in 2023

Jakarta, ABIM (8/11/2023) – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is actively implementing its community infrastructure program in the 2023 fiscal year (FY) through the Cash for Work (PKT/cash for work) scheme. This program includes the development of roads and bridges.

The PUPR Minister, Basuki Hadimuljono, stated that the PKT program of the PUPR Ministry focuses on involving local residents in infrastructure development. This includes small-scale projects that do not require advanced technology.

“Labor-intensive infrastructure development is focused on generating employment opportunities and boosting people’s buying capacity. PKT also has the objective of allocating funds to villages and remote areas,” stated Minister Basuki.

The Director General of Highways, Hedy Rahadian, said that the Directorate General of Highways receives secured a funding allocation of IDR 4.8 trillion for the PKT program in the road and bridge sector. The program aims to create job opportunities for 80,000 workers across 2,650 locations by FY 2023.

The PKT program for roads and bridges focuses on various aspects of maintenance and improvement to enhance the quality of national road services. This program is implemented in all National Road Implementation Centers/National Road Implementation Centers of the Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of PUPR.

The PKT FY 2023 budget allocation for routine road maintenance is IDR 883 billion, routine maintenance of road conditions is IDR 444 billion, road support/holding is IDR 256 billion, routine bridge maintenance is IDR 302 billion, and drainage revitalization is IDR 178 billion.

In addition to the routine PKT program for infrastructure maintenance, the Directorate General of Highways has allocated a budget of IDR 2.74 trillion for labor-intensive activities in FY 2023. These activities will focus on non-routine or contractual projects.(ABIM)
