Attending the 4th General Assembly of Asia Water Council in South Korea, Minister Basuki Encouraged the Active Participation in the 10th World Water Forum

Songsan, South Korea, ABIM (7/7/2023) – Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono attended The 4th General Assembly of Asia Water Council (AWC) in Songsan Global Education & Research Center, South Korea, Thursday (7/6).

The second meeting, which was held on March 24–26 in Bali, according to Minister Basuki, demonstrated the AWC’s rapid progress since the first one. The AWC now has 124 members, 24 of which are from Asia.

“We have established a solid cooperation that cuts across political and cultural divides through AWC. AWC has taken the lead in solving water-related issues, including guaranteeing access to clean water and sanitation and lessening the effects of water- and climate-related disasters.” Minister Basuki said.

One of the collaborations between Indonesia and AWC is Smart Water Management in Denpasar, Bali. This project aims to reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) and achieve efficient water management.

“In addition, we will also start a collaboration for the Semarang Smart Water Cities Project with AWC, IWRA (International Water Resources Association), and K-Water. We are grateful for this initiative that allows us to evaluate the provision and management of our urban water services, Minister Basuki said.

As a follow-up to the UN 2023 Water Conference, collaboration of all parties in overcoming water-related issues is seen as important to ensure people’s welfare. This goal is in line with the 10th World Water Forum which will be held in Bali in 2024 with the theme “Water for Shared Prosperity”.

“We are committed to making the 10th World Water Forum a platform for exchanging innovative ideas and concrete actions that will shape the future of water governance in the world. “With the AWC’s and its member countries’ support and active participation, we are confident that this event will deliver real results and inspire transformative change,” Minister Basuki stated.

The discussion in the 10th World Water Forum will be carried out through thematic, regional and political processes.

“The AWC’s participation in the regional process is critical. We need to talk about a lot of things before we can come up with a solution. As a result, we expect the AWC’s active involvement in the 10th World Water Forum,” Minister Basuki said.(ABIM)
