Songsan, South Korea, ABIM (9/7/2023) – Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono attended the 3rd Asia International Water Week (AIWW) Kick-off Meeting in Songsan, South Korea, Friday (7/7).
Minister Basuki delivered three major points about water management in the Asian area. This matter should be discussed at the meeting and then followed up on. This kickoff marks a significant step toward the 3rd Asia International Water Week (AIWW) in China in 2024.
Minister Basuki stated that the first message was about implementing a Smart Water Management System, specifically to achieve water, food, and energy security.
“As we all know, Asia has the world’s greatest population, accounting for 60% of the total. As a result, given the rapid economic growth that has impacted water resources, we must provide sufficient water quantity and good water quality to meet human requirements,” Minister Basuki stated.
According to Minister Basuki, the next topic to be discussed is how to fund innovations in the provision of clean water and reduce the risk of hydro-meteorological disasters. “We also need to focus on how to manage water resources in order to achieve a water management policy that is equitable for all,” he said.
“Water and disasters were also highlighted at the recent UN 2023 Water Conference (UN 2023 Water Conference) in New York. We need real action from the international water community by synergizing the management of water, disasters and climate change,” Minister Basuki added.
On this occasion, Minister Basuki also invited all participants to support the proposal for World Lake Day which is one of the ideas as well as the output of the tenth World Water Forum. The goal is to promote the conservation and use of lakes globally. For this reason, they will fight together to become the UN General Assembly Resolution.
Finally, Minister Basuki also invited all participants to actively take part in a series of meetings at the 10th World Water Forum which will be carried out through thematic, regional and political processes, especially at the 2nd Stakeholders Consultation Meeting on 12 – 13 October 2023 in Bali . “This meeting is crucial to discuss the framework and content at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024,” he said.
