Stockholm, Sweden, ABIM (22/8/2023) – Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), invited the Egyptian government to participate as the African region’s coordinator at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024, while also encouraging active participation from countries in Africa, the Middle East (Middle East Countries), and Arabia.
“We hope and appreciate Egypt’s commitment to lead the African area at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024 as President of the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW). Given the longstanding relationship of Indonesia-Egypt connections, the Indonesian government intends to invite Egypt’s President to visit Bali as well as the Bandung Spirit Water Summit, which was inspired by the Asian-African Conference in Indonesia in 1955.” Minister Basuki said during a bilateral meeting with the Egyptian Minister of Water Resources (SDA) and Irrigation who is also the President of the Council of Ministers for Water Resources on the African Continent for the 2023-2025 period Hani Sewilam, Monday (8/21).
In the near future, Minister Basuki said, the Government of Indonesia will hold the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) on 12-13 October 2023 in Bali.
Hani Sewilam, Egyptian Minister of Water Resources (SDA) and Irrigation, stated that the Egyptian government would completely support the staging of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024 by encouraging African, Middle Eastern, and Arab countries to actively participate in the forums.
“The Government of Egypt hosted the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27) in 2022, and one of the working groups was related to Water and Climate Change Adaptation.” Egypt is currently one of the world’s water leaders, and it is hoped that this trend will continue during the 10th World Water Forum,” Minister Hani Sewilam stated.
On this occasion, Egyptian Minister of Water Resources (SDA) and Irrigation Hani Sewilam also presented the results of the United Nations climate conference, Conference of the Parties (COP27), in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) called Action for Water Adaptation and Resilience (AWARE).
“One of the concrete programs from this AWARE initiative is capacity building in climate change adaptation, water, sanitation and irrigation,” Minister Hani Sewilam said.
Minister Basuki said Indonesia and Egypt had collaborated for a long time, especially in the water and sanitation sector, so it was very possible to develop cooperation in other fields, such as climate change and energy. “We hope there will be concrete results from this AWARE initiative,” Minister Basuki said.
Deputy for Facilities and Infrastructure at BAPPENAS Ervan Maksum, Director General of Housing Iwan Suprijanto, Expert Staff to the Minister of PUPR for Technology, Industry, and Environment Endra S. Atmawidjaja, and Main Director of PT. Brantas Abipraya Sugeng Rochadi were in attendance with Minister Basuki.(ABIM)
