Closing the 2023 Asia Australasia Road Conference, Minister Basuki: Improve the Quality and Sustainability of Road Infrastructure

Labuan Bajo, ABIM (28/8/2023) – Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), and World Road Association (PIARC) President Nazir Ali, as well as Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia (REAAA) representative Muhammad Marizwan Abdul Manan, officially closed the 2023 Asia Australasia Road Conference (AARC) series of events in Labuan Bajo on Saturday, (8/26).

Minister Basuki expressed his gratitude to all participants who had joined and actively participated in AARC 2023, and congratulated REAAA on the 50th anniversary.

“I believe that this conference will provide us with insight and exchange of experiences on advanced technology to increase efficiency in road infrastructure development. The goal is to produce high quality and sustainable road infrastructure for everyone,” Minister Basuki said.

Minister Basuki believes that the successful implementation of the 2023 AARC is from the strong cooperation between the Ministry of PUPR, REAAA, PIARC, and the Indonesian Road Development Association (IRDA).

“This productive collaboration shows our commitment to the progress of transportation and road infrastructure. We hope that the collaboration that was established at this conference will continue to inspire us in efforts to make positive changes,” he said.

1,052 local participants and 138 international participants from a variety of backgrounds, including the public and private sectors, investors, contractors, design and technical consultants, academics, industry players, and professionals, attended AARC 2023, which was held in Labuan Bajo from August 24 to 27, 2023.

With the theme “Advance Technology Implementation Towards Sustainable Road Development,” this activity seeks to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience between local and international experts and practitioners in the development of sustainable road infrastructure through the use of advanced technology.

The agenda for AARC 2023 features seminars and conferences of worldwide scope, keynote addresses, technical sessions, national and international exhibitions, field trips, and cultural excursions. Seven topics are covered, including new and innovative pavement design and maintenance/road pavement recycling; road safety; resilience and disaster management for roads and climate change; geotechnics, bridges, and tunnels; transportation and highway planning, geometric of roads, and accessibility; transport administration and strategic improvisation of project management; and asset management and digital technology in road networks.

The Director General of Bina Marga of the Ministry of PUPR, Chair of HPJI Hedy Rahadian, Expert Staff to the Minister of PUPR for Technology, Industry, and Environment Endra S. Atmawidjaja, and Chair of the IKN Infrastructure Development Implementation Task Force Danis H. Sumadilaga were all in attendance as well.(ABIM)
