Indonesian Government Prepares Follow-up Plan for Thematic, Regional, and Political Processes after 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting of 10th World Water Forum

Bali, ABIM (19/10/2023) – As the 10th World Water Forum would be hosted in Indonesia in 2024, the Indonesian government held the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on Bali, Indonesia, on October 12-13, 2023.

Director General of the Ministry of PUPR and Chairman of the Secretariat of the National Committee Organizing the 10th World Water Forum, Mohammad Zainal Fatah, stated that the Indonesian Government, in its capacity as host, immediately drafted a joint agreement to be presented at the 10th World Water Forum in 2024, following a meeting where stakeholders provided input on thematic, regional, and political processes.

“All suggestions will be considered for discussion at the tenth World Water Forum.” Indonesia, in consultation with the World Water Council, will submit a draft Ministerial Joint Declaration by the middle of November 2023, according to Secretary General Zainal Fatah at the conclusion of the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on Friday (10/13).

In addition, a meeting session for heads of state was scheduled to emphasize the importance of collaborating between both developed and developing countries in areas of water management, as stated by PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, according to Zainal Fatah.

“Apart from that, at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in May 2024, we will also continue to look for opportunities to collaborate with various other parties such as the Association of Island Countries which have big risks related to water,” according to Zainal Fatah.
As stated by Secretary General Zainal Fatah, the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting of the 10th World Water Forum served as a preparation for the forum’s most extensive gathering to date. The 2nd SCM WWF event was attended by 1094 participants 73 different countries.

Vice President of the World Water Council (WWC) Eric Tardieu expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian Government as the host for working hard and successfully holding the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting of the 10th World Water Forum.

Eric said, currently there is a temporary list of input of around 120 thematic sessions and will be complemented by regional sessions. These two processes, thematic and political processes will support the political process.

“For the political process, a ministerial-level declaration will be prepared. For local and regional authorities, for watershed authorities, and for Parliamentary segments, we are also drafting concrete and coherent messages and actions, like the ones you just heard. We will now processing all this input and interaction,” said Eric.(ABIM)
