Blora, East Java, ABIM (22/10/2023) – Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono accompanied with Minister of State Secretary Pratikno reviewed the construction site for the Karangnongko Motion Dam in Ngelo Village, Margomulyo, Bojonegoro Regency, East Java, Thursday (10/19). Accelerating the construction of the Karangnongko Motion Dam was carried out to increase the amount of water storage in order to support food and water security programs, especially in Central Java and East Java Provinces.

Minister Basuki stated that the Bengawan Solo River damming project, the Karangnongko Motion Dam, had been carefully planned for some time in order to increase the water supply to arid regions in the Blora and Bojonegoro Regencies.

According to Minister Basuki, Karangnongko Dam is a 24-kilometer long reservoir on the Bengawan Solo River that uses moving weir technology to store water for a later 59-million-m3 capacity.

“First, we’ll construct it far away from any populated areas along the Bengawan Solo River. After the cofferdam is complete, the water will be diverted, and then the dam will be constructe.”, said Minister Basuki.

The building of the Karangnongko Motion Dam is included in the Second Amendment to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs’ Regulation No. 7 of 2021 Concerning Changes to the List of National Strategic Projects (PSN), which was issued in Regulation No. 21 of 2022. This dam has a pool area of 1,027 hectares, which is utilized to irrigate a total area of 6,950 hectares in the districts of Blora, Bojonegoro, and the surroundings.

The distribution of the Karangnongko Dam irrigation water supply will occur via the Karangnongko Kiri Irrigation Area (DI), which covers 1,746 hectares, and the DI Karangnongko Kanan (Bojonegoro Regency), which extends over 5,203 hectares.

According to Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, the agriculture industry in Blora and Bojonegoro could benefit from the building of the Karangnongko Motion Dam. Involving the local community, the objective is to develop the agribusiness sector in the area of the dam in a sustainable and productive manner.

Karangnongko development was carried out in 2 work packages with an APBN budget of IDR 1.26 trillion. Package 1 has been contracted in September 2023 with service providers PT Waskita Karya (Persero)-PT Hutama Karya (Persero)-PT Pembangunan Perumahan Tbk (KSO). Package 2 was contracted in October 2023 with the contractor PT Waskita Karya-PT Bangkit Berkah Perkasa-PT Kelman Infra Pratama (KSO). The Karangnongko Motion Dam is targeted according to the contract in December 2026.

Additionally, the Karangnongko Gerak Dam will be connected to three Motion Dams located downstream—the Bojonegoro Motion Dam, the Babat Motion Dam, and the Sembayat Motion Dam—in order to supply 1,155 liters per second of natural water for irrigation purposes in the Bengawan Solo downstream region. Furthermore, it is expected that it will have the capacity to provide irrigation water to the Solo Valley Werken region, which spans 62,000 hectares.

Director General of Human Settlements Diana Kusumastuti and Director General of Water Resources Bob Arthur Lombogia were in attendance at the inspection of the Karangnongko Motion Dam. Endra S. Atmawidjaja, an expert staff member to the Minister of PUPR for Technology, Industry, and the Environment, was also in attendance.
