Indralaya, South Sumatra, ABIM (27/10/2023) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) accompanied by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono inaugurated the 64.5 km long Simpang Indralaya – Prabumulih Toll Road and the 382 meter long Patih Galung Flyover on Thursday (10/26). The completion of these two connectivity infrastructures is crucial for the economic growth of southern Sumatra.
The Indralaya-Prabumulih Toll Road, which was built with an investment of Rp12.5 trillion, is part of the 2,800-kilometer Trans Sumatra Toll Road. The President expressed belief that this infrastructure development will increase the speed of mobility of goods and services as well as Indonesia’s competitiveness.
“Last night, I met with community leaders, religious leaders, they said, ‘Sir, it used to take 10 to 12 hours from Palembang to Lampung, now it takes 3.5 hours.’ That is an amazing speed,” he said.
The President stated that so far, the total length of toll roads that have been built only reached 2,800 kilometers. He deemed it that to compete with other countries, such as the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Indonesia needs a long way to go.
“China already has 280,000 kilometers. We have 2,800 [kilometers]. They have 280,000 kilometers. We are still very far away in terms of our competitiveness,” he said.
Therefore, the President underlined that Indonesia’s infrastructure development must continue to be improved to increase Indonesia’s competitiveness.
PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said, the Trans Sumatra Toll Road spans a total length of 2,749 kilometres and comprises 24 toll sections, of which 1,889 kilometres are the primary corridor (backbone) and 860 kilometres are the supporting corridor.
“The presence of the Indralaya-Palembang Toll Road will support connectivity from Lampung-South Sumatra to Bengkulu, thereby facilitating mobility and smoothing logistics flows to improve South Sumatra’s economy,” added Minister Basuki.
In addition, the Director General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR Hedy Rahadian, Expert Staff to the Minister of PUPR for Technology, Industry and the Environment of the Ministry of PUPR Endra S. Atmawidjaja, Head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of PUPR Miftachul Munir, Main Director (Dirut) Hutama Karya Budi Harto, Managing Director of the State Asset Management Institute Basuki Purwadi, Head of BBPJN South Sumatra Ministry of PUPR Hardy P Siahaan, and Head of BBWS Sumatra VIII Feriyanto Pawenrusi were in attendance at the inauguration.(ABIM)
