Bali, ABIM (16/10/2023) – Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono met with Japanese representatives at the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali on Thursday (10/12). The meeting was held by the Director General of Water Resources, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) Japan, Atsushi Nakagomef.
Minister Basuki stated that Japan’s support in the execution of the tenth World Water Forum would be extremely valuable, particularly in exemplifying the Bandung Spirit, which symbolizes international cooperation.
“Yesterday, together with the President of the World Water Council (WWC), Loic Fauchon, I met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs said that currently the world is eager to increase collaboration. So we are taking “Bandung Spirit” to increase collaboration on water management, which is currently known as water justice,” said the Minister Basuki.
Minister Basuki stated the continued cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in developing Sabo technology to anticipate debris flows and control sediments in a natural landscape, especially mountain rivers, as an example of the implementation of the Spirit of the Asian-African Conference in Bandung (Bandung Spirit).
Atsushi Nakagomef, Director General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) Japan, stated that at the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, all MLIT delegates participated totally in all processes.
“We also learned that the 10th World Water Forum in 2024 will include a political process involving state leaders and ministers.” “Technically, we will consider the presence of a number of high-ranking Japanese officials at the 10th World Water Forum in May 2024,” stated Atsushi Nakagomef.
Meanwhile, Minister Basuki has been invited to attend the World Lake Conference in Hungary in November 2023 by the Coordinator of the High-Level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disaster (HELP), Kenzo Hiroki. “We invite you to attend to discuss the idea of World Lake Day,” he said.
In response, Minister Basuki indicated that the Indonesian government strongly supports the idea to make World Lake Day a UN resolution. “Because Indonesia also has many lakes and there are dozens of lakes that are a priority for revitalization,” he said.
Also present at the meeting were the Secretary General of the PUPR Ministry Mohammad Zainal Fatah, Director General of Water Resources Bob Arthur Lombogia, Director General of Human Settlements Diana Kusumastuti, and Director General of Construction Development Rachman Arief Dienaputra.(ABIM)
