10th World Water Forum Theme Matches UNICEF’s Goal

Jakarta, ABIM (3/5/2024) – The theme of the 10th World Water Forum ‘Water for Shared Prosperity’ is in line with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)’s goal.

Explained by the WASH (Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation) UNICEF Indonesia’ Specialist, Salathiel Nali in Jakarta, Thursday (2/5/2024).

Nali highlights that UNICEF’s objectives cover a range of important areas, such as ensuring children have access to clean water. Another important area of concern is the issue of water scarcity and its impact on child health. According to UNICEF, there are still many children living in areas with limited access to water, which negatively affects their health.

Nali further stated during the event that the 10th World Water Forum, scheduled to be held in Bali from May 18th to May 25th, 2024, will emphasise the correlation between climate change and the depleting water supply—a critical concern that compromises the welfare of children.

“That’s why finding solutions for shared water well-being is crucial in a world facing climate change,” said Nali.

The 10th World Water Forum will focus on four key areas: water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and the mitigation of natural disasters.
A total of 244 sessions in the forum aim to yield tangible outcomes, including the mainstreaming of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) on Small Islands, the establishment of a Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience (COE), and the designation of World Lake Day.

The Indonesian government has invited 43 ambassadors and 4 international organizations to participate in and support the success of the 10th World Water Forum.(ABIM)
