Tamansuruh Banyuwangi Agro Tourism Arrangement Completed, Ministry of PUPR Integrates Osing Culture and Technology

Jakarta, ABIM (29/8/2023) – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has completed the arrangement of the Tamansuruh Agro Tourism Area (AWT) located in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java. The original Banyuwangi traditional home construction is presented as part of the AWT redevelopment, which continues the Osing Village concept.

The concept of revitalizing Tamansuruh Agro Tourism is adapted to the function of a tourist object that utilizes the agricultural sector combined with environmental sustainability and local culture.

“For tourism, infrastructure must be repaired first, followed by amenities and a new major promotion event. If this is not ready, tourists will come once and will not return. That is what we have to take good care of,” PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said.

The arrangement of the Tamansuruh Agro Tourism area was carried out by the East Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center, the Directorate General (Ditjen) Cipta Karya of the PUPR Ministry since September 2021 and will be completed at the end of 2022.

The Osing traditional house has a main structure with four columns supporting the building called _Soko_. The use of wood materials of the highest quality and the planting of flowers around the Osing House add to the distinctive nuance of Banyuwangi’s cultural authenticity.

The plan includes revitalizing traditional homes as well as improving road access and parking. The main structure is a sizable hall surrounded by fish ponds, and it also includes the construction of additional tourism-related infrastructure, including ticketing, pedestrians, MSME kiosks, dance studios, Osing plaza, view deck, prayer room, toilet, ground water tank, and fire protection.

Tamansuruh Agro Tourism is a 10.5 hectare natural tourist site located on Mount Ijen’s slopes, precisely in Tamansuruh Village, Glagah District. This agrotourism revitalization program is intended to boost domestic and international tourism, which will boost the local community’s economy.

The structuring concept puts forward a combination of local wisdom and the use of technology supported by traditional activities and routine cultural attractions. There is also a digital library and activity space for Smart Kampung without losing the original identity of Tamansuruh Agrotourism as a flower garden and display case for superior agricultural commodities in Banyuwangi Regency.

From a height of about 450 masl, visitors will be treated to views of the Ijen mountains and the Bali Strait. The existence of the Osing Tribe traditional house building is also a special attraction for visitors because the building has special characteristics and there are very interesting photo spots with a background of various kinds of flower and fruit plants.(ABIM)
